The Tailored Vision
When we were approached by our client, he wanted a home that offered privacy and sanctuary without feeling like an opaque, enclosed box. Natural light and connection to the outdoors were essential to him. The property is compact, which suited the homeowner’s goal of creating an efficient floor plan while still delivering high-end finishes and a luxurious experience.
In the early conceptual phase, our team, together with the owner, studied several siting options, carefully evaluating each for spatial quality, privacy, and views. This exercise allowed us to provide the owner with invaluable insight into the potential of the living spaces, and gave him confidence to focus on a final design solution that would maximize both functionality and experience.
To make the space feel larger than its footprint, the living room flows seamlessly into the rear private courtyard. Expansive glass walls allow the interior to visually share the courtyard space, enhancing the sense of openness. Additionally, the angled upper volume not only widens the rear courtyard but also lets more morning light into the home, making the compact plan feel bright and expansive.

Process
The design process emphasized careful spatial planning and craft. Each material and detail was selected to create a sense of quality and refinement, both inside and outside the home.

Materiality
Highly crafted features, such as the recessed wood handrail, were designed by Meridian 105 and executed by an experienced millworker. The stair becomes a design centerpiece, terminating at a point that separates the foyer from the living space and includes a custom glass guardrail.
The foyer acts as an interesting transition zone: a glass roof guides circulation from exterior to interior spaces in stages, creating a sense of arrival and gradual immersion into the home.

Living Experience
The combination of careful orientation, strategic use of angles, and visual connections to the courtyard makes the home feel open, light-filled, and connected to nature despite its compact size. Every choice—from spatial planning to material selection—was guided by the homeowner’s desire for privacy, luxury, and a strong indoor-outdoor connection.
