Description

The Edgewater Public Market is an adaptive reuse and new construction project that establishes a retail, dining, and social destination in Edgewater, Colorado.  The project consists of four buildings on a 6.75-acre lot.

A 55,000 square foot abandoned grocery store was converted to a food hall concept with interior retail vendors, transforming it into a destination for community gathering and activity.  Over 20 restaurant tenants of various sizes occupy the space along with locally owned retail storefronts and a 3,000 square foot brewery. The remaining two buildings incorporate substantial façade upgrades and exterior improvements. A fourth newly constructed building houses two new restaurant tenants and borders the outdoor movie theater.

A selection of weathered and rustic materials serves to both compliment and elevate

the materiality of the existing structures. Corrugated metal panels and exposed timbers are installed alongside raw structural steel and weathered wood siding. Murals, painted by local artists, adorn the building facades. Overall, these features contribute to a more authentic vibe, delicately integrating the project into the existing neighborhood.

Reconfigured parking areas incorporate landscape improvements and public amenity spaces such as a dog walk area, a grassed movies-on-the-lawn space, and a multi-purpose outdoor event area.  The outdoor experience provides vital connectivity to the neighborhood and amenities that attract residents, not merely for the retail convenience, but to shop, dine and enjoy the property as an extension of the Edgewater’s public space.
